I chose to come to Southport College because of the Acorn Pathway. There isn’t any other course local to me with the opportunities available through this course. The opportunity to do hospital placements has been amazing; learning the skills needed to work in the industry, the confidence to work with real patients and gaining knowledge and skills from nurses in the job now has been invaluable. I originally wanted to be a midwife however working on the children’s wards has inspired me to go on to study paediatric nursing next year at Edgehill University. The BTEC route has been the best option for me. You are not sat in a classroom all day; getting work experience as well as learning the theory has given me everything I need to progress into my chosen career.

I chose Southport College because it has fantastic facilities and opportunities. I knew I wanted to be a midwife but I also liked the idea of paediatric nursing. Being an Acorn Cadet has given me opportunities to work on adult, children's and maternity wards. Working at Southport and Ormskirk Hospital alongside the nurses, doctors, midwives etc. has been incredible and I have been able to experience so much. I am going to Liverpool John Moores University to study Midwifery next year and doing numerous work placements throughout my course definitely helped me get my place on the course.
