Wednesday August 29th saw the celebration of the outstanding success of our University Centre Southport Students, at our annual Graduation ceremony held in the stunning surroundings of Southport’s Holy Trinity Church.
Over 250 friends, family, staff, governors and colleagues joined the graduands at this auspicious occasion, as they were congratulated by College Principal John Clarke and Chair of Governors Veronica Fell, on their achievements in HNCs, HNDs, Foundation and Honours Degrees, Certificates and Post Graduate Certificates in Education, as well as Higher Level Diplomas in Leadership and Management.
In addition to academic certificates, several students were also presented with special awards for outstanding achievement, dedication and commitment during their time with us.
Jonathan Ripley graduating in the Foundation Degree Computing and IT received the Outstanding Achievement Award.
The award for Student Citizenship was presented to Georgina Armstrong graduating from the Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
Finally, Simon Bunting graduating from the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management took home the Award for Student Engagement.
The graduates listened to inspiring words from Keynote Speaker Mary Osmaston, programme Director for Teacher Education at UCLAN, who amongst other things, reminded them that you never forget a good teacher; and their fellow Student Amanda Neale, who received her Certificate in Education, and was this year’s student speaker. Amanda eloquently paid tribute to the quality of teaching and high level of tutor support she and her colleagues had received whilst studying at the University Centre.
The afternoon ended with a drinks and canapes reception in the Parish Centre, giving the graduates and their families a chance to celebrate their successes with their fellow students and tutors.
Anne-Marie Francis, Vice Principal for Southport College said , “Our University Centre continues to grow from strength to strength and celebrating the outstanding success of our HE students at this high profile event is one of the highlights of the college year. We are delighted and proud to hear that many of our graduates have already secured high level employment or career development in their chosen fields, with others choosing to progress their studies even further and we wish them all every success for the future.”
Many Congratulations to all of our 2018 Higher Education graduates.
