Enrichment at Southport College

Alongside studying for your course, Southport College offers lots of opportunities to get involved in different enrichment activities throughout the year such as joining cross-college committees, the student council or becoming a student governor. Enrichment is about providing opportunities to bring learning to life, broaden your range of interests, meet new friends, develop as a person and have fun.

Sports Enrichment

At Southport College there are a wide range of sport and physical activities on offer for students and staff to take part in. There are weekly sessions in badminton, 5-a-side football, short tennis, dodgeball, basketball, table tennis, yoga, running, walking, benchball and multi-sports, as well as competitions in short tennis, rounders, table tennis and football.

The College also has representative teams in 11-a-side football, volleyball, rugby union and basketball, and these teams compete on a regular basis throughout the year.

Additionally, there is also the college gym, which is free to all staff and students and is open three days per week.

Even more provision is planned for 2017/18, with more people accessing the scheme each year.

Student Events Team

Each year the marketing team at Southport College appoints talented students from across the College to join our Student Events Team. As members of the team, students work together with a buzzing marketing department helping to deliver events on and off the College campus throughout the year.

What does a Students Events Team member do?

The Student Events Team can be asked to help out with events such as:

  • Open Evenings
  • Taster days
  • Campus tours
  • School careers events (Careers fairs etc)

Why should you get involved?

Successful applicants will receive training and support throughout their time as a team member plus we do our best to make the programme enjoyable and a valuable work experience to impress future employers.

At the same time students also benefit from opportunities to:

  • Develop skills like public speaking
  • Enhance your CV events experience
  • Making friends from across the college
  • Have fun!

You can apply to join the student events team once you start your course in September.

Student Council

Each year the Student Council recruits a number of individuals who act as representatives for their fellow students. They get involved in a range of projects including organising charity events and working with College management giving their input on important college decisions.  Being a part of the Student Council is a great way of making new friends from different courses, building confidence and developing teamwork skills; all things that look great on your CV or UCAS Personal Statement. You can read more about being a member of the Student Council here.
