Kate Wilson

My name is Kate, I joined Southport college, after studying textiles at Liverpool College, to further develop my art and design skills and to help me progress onto university. I mostly enjoy painting with watercolour and drawing with fine liner. During my time at Southport College, I have had the opportunity to experiment with a range of new techniques and processes.

About My Project

"The concept title for this project was ‘Dreams and Surrealism.’ My final piece represents a personal expression of the vivid, yet bizarre and irrational nature of dreams through my work, using surreal and distorted, painted imagery. After exploring and researching the work of both early 20th century Surrealists as well as contemporary artists and experimenting with a range of both traditional and digital techniques, I was able to develop a piece that I believe communicates this concept. I enjoyed the process of using collage (a technique originally developed by the surrealists) and combining this with my exploration of distorted portraiture, which ultimately inspired my outcome."
