The theme of my work is based on the Data theme researching the number of animals, including dogs, cats and monkeys that were sent into space as part of the American and Russian space programme. This is an emotive topic, but also a very interesting and shocking slice of history. I have made my drawings and paintings from referencing a series of my own photographs taken in the studio of my own dog to replicate some of the dogs that were sent up to space. In my two final pieces I painted the animals using a mixed media of oil paints, acrylic and colour pastels.
