Grace Abela-Collins

I’m Grace. I left Archbishop Beck Catholic College with 7 GSCEs and a BTEC after 5 years. I attended this college course because it helped me explore my skills in creativity through many medias. I liked this course because it encouraged my interests in creating and my curiosity for new things, which is what I want for my future.

About my project

"My final project pieces were inspired by the influence of music in everyday life and how different genres can impact personalities, emotions and behaviours differently, although in a way these results are connected with research behind them. For my pieces I used a range of medias to experiment on to find what would work for my final piece, as I did not know what do to for it. I made keyrings, earrings, screen-prints, digital illustrations, Lino prints, collages, stickers, painting, badges, zines, mock-ups and posters. Some were individual designs, and most were developed into another piece.

The main theme I tried to keep up was to associate the genres of music with the art style I was re-creating them as- for example, pop music was made into pop art digitally with bright block colours, heavy metal was presented in black and red designs on screen-print, folk music was presented in Lino art with soft gradient colours.

My original plan or my final piece was to screen-print heavy metal designs onto vinyl’s however the results did not suit my expectations for a final piece, so I re-created research charts into a poster by making digital illustrations from a zine I made as experimentation. I liked the results of a poster, so I decided to create pop art style posters inspired by this along with mock-ups. I made pop art style posters digitally and through Lino printing too."
