Hi I’m Lexi and I went to Stanley High School. I chose to come to Southport because it was my local college and offered the course I want to study – Graphic Design. After college I hope to gain employment or an apprenticeship.

About my project

My artwork is about the nostalgia and emotion that comes with film photography and instant photography and the photos they produce. No matter what your age, Film Photography feels nostalgic whether you lived through the time of them being the latest cameras or happened to find your grandads in his loft, you still feel a connection to the photos they produce and the memories they capture.

I happened to stumble across a couple photographers on YouTube one being Willem Verbeeck and the other being Negative Feedback and really liked the photos they were able to achieve with a film camera. This prompted me to buy one myself and try it out as cameras have always interested me. I just love how they look, and I think they’re quite beautiful. I couldn’t wait to try it out, so I chose to base my FMP around Film Photography and the nostalgia.

I used a Canon AE1, Disposable camera and an Instax Mini 9 to collect all my photos from around Southport along with a few portraits of friends. Although I got all my coloured rolls of film developed for me, I was able to develop my black and white roll from within college and develop my photos in the darkroom.
