We offer a variety of short courses for adults, which are all free of charge.
There are both day time and evening options to choose from and they all take place at our easily accessible town centre campus and are taught by friendly, knowledgeable and supportive teachers.
Take a look at what is currently available in the listings below. Once you have decided which you want to enrol on, just come along to one of our face to face enrolment sessions.
Please note that places do fill up fast and all courses are subject to availability. Different courses may be added throughout the year, so please keep an eye on our social media for the latest updates.
Introduction to Health & Social Care.
Tuesdays 5pm - 9pm. 6 Week Course
This interesting short course is your first step into a rewarding career in the social care sector, it covers a wide range of basic skills and is ideal preparation for employment, a Health & Social Care Apprenticeship,or progression to an Access to HE course at Southport College.
Choose from one of the following courses:
- Course 1 is Sep 16 to Nov 4.
- Course 2 is Nov 11 to Dec 9
- Course 3 is Dec 16 to Feb 03
- Course 4 is Feb 10 to Mar 24.
- Course 5 is Apr 14 to May 19.

Plumbing for Beginners
Tuesdays 1pm-5pm. 6 Week Course
This beginners course provides an excellent introduction to plumbing within the construction industry and is ideal for people wanting to improve their DIY skills too. You will be introduced to a range of domestic plumbing maintenance techniques, along with basic pipe bending and jointing skills.
Choose from 1 of the following courses.
- Course 1 is Sep 16 to Nov 04
- Course 2 is Nov 11 to Dec 16
- Course 3 is Jan 6 to Feb 10
- Course 4 is Feb 24 to Apr 14
- Course 5 is Apr 21 to May 5

Crochet Workshops
Tuesdays 6pm-9pm. 6 Week Course
An introduction to the basics of Crochet.
This friendly and supportive class will help you develop skills to move onto your next project.
All ability levels are welcome as the classes cater for all and starter materials are provided for beginners.
Please note that due to high demand, students can enrol onto a maximum of 3 of the 5 crochet courses below in any 1 academic year.

Tiling for Beginners
Wednesdays 5pm-9pm. 6 Week Course
This beginners course will give you an excellent introduction to tiling, teaching you a range of tiling techniques and all the necessary basic skills to be able to do DIY within your home.
Choose from 1 of the following courses.

- Course 2 is Feb 11 to Mar 17

Tuesdays 6pm-9pm. 10 Week Course
The Beginners course is suitable for either complete beginners or those who may have learnt some Italian a while back and want to re-acquaint themselves. It will introduce you to Italian language and culture as well as help you to gain confidence in speaking and listening.
The Progression Course is suitable for those who have either completed the Italian for Beginners or those who may have learnt some Italian language in the past and who are ready to futher develop their confidence in speaking and listening.

How to Enrol
To enrol on any of our free short courses for adults, just come into the college reception any time between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Thursday during July or August and our friendly staff will be ready to help.
Please make a note of the course and dates you wish to enrol on and you will need to bring some photo ID with you (for example a drivers licence, passport or over 60’s bus pass) and proof of your address. All our courses are subject to availability and many do fill up fast, so we advise you to enrol as soon as possible.
