I chose the BSE course at Southport College as it’s hands on and practical; I didn’t want to be sat in a classroom all day! The course gives you lots of knowledge about the different areas of the industry, electrical, gas and plumbing, meaning you have lots of progression opportunities once you’ve finished. I am doing a Level 2 Apprenticeship with EFT next year with the hope to continue working with them in the electrical systems department in the future. I have really enjoyed the practical lessons, especially when we have made something such as copper and steel frames.

I attended a Southport College open evening and the building services engineering course looked like something I would enjoy. The course is a really good place to start at if you would like to work in the construction industry and has helped me to decide what I want to do for my career. The staff are really good and show you how to complete all the tasks and I’ve really enjoyed learning new skills in the construction industry. Next year I am going to study the Level 3 Gas course as I would like to be a gas engineer in the future.
