I chose to do catering at Southport College because I had heard many good things about the course. I completed my Level 3 Patisserie and Confectionery this year. The course itself offered a variety of tasks to complete and I have really enjoyed designing menus for the restaurant services throughout the year. Knowing that I've come up with dishes and genuine customers are tasting them has been amazing! My all-time favourite part if the course has been learning how to use different types of sugar, such as pulled sugar to make roses and pouring sugar to make things such as my tennis rackets. Next year I am going into a full-time job within a pastry section, becoming a pastry chef in a professional kitchen. I recommend this course as it teaches you so much and I have learnt many different techniques and skills which has helped to build my confidence in the kitchen.

I had heard really good things about the catering courses at Southport College and when I came to Open Evening I was really impressed. I have really enjoyed working as part of a team during the restaurant services; when the service goes well it’s such a proud moment. Working in Clouds restaurant on a day to day basis gives students an amazing experience on how the industry works. The industry standard kitchens here are so good. They are really modern and up to date and make it really easy to transfer the skills you’ve learnt at college to real work. The staff are very knowledgeable and teach you everything you need to know and are really easy to get on with. The catering course at Southport College is one of the best courses around. It is hard work but very rewarding! If you want to work in the catering industry it will definitely get you to where you want to be.

Southport College is close to home, has a good reputation and was recommended to me by family members who had attended in the past and I’m so glad I came here. The facilities are great and very up to date and I’ve loved the freedom to produce whatever I want. I’ve also had the opportunity to meet local, well known chefs and experience Michelin star restaurants. I’d recommend anyone to apply for this course; it could be the best decision you could make for your next step in life.

I chose Southport College because it is the closest college to home with by far the best facilities for catering. All the kitchens have been redesigned and are brand new offering everything to help you become a successful chef. The staff are all amazing too! I really enjoyed the guest chef visits that we had over the years. These were a great way to learn from chefs in the industry who would share their knowledge and skills with us. I have always wanted to be a chef and coming to Southport College has helped me to make this dream come true; I’d recommend the college to anyone!
