We are beyond delighted to announce that Southport College engineering student Calum Borland wins T Level Student of the Year at the Enginuity Skills Awards 2026.

T Level Engineering Student Calum Borland at the Enginuity Awards 2026

Last year, Calum secured one out of seven competitive work placements at BAE Systems as part of his T-Level qualification. During his time at BAE, he made a fantastic impression in the workplace with his dedication, work ethic, and commitment to his professional development. The Education Service team at BAE Systems, Kieron and Lauren, subsequently nominated him for T Level Student of the Year at the Enginuity Skills Awards.

On Wednesday 2nd July, Calum travelled to London with his family to attend the prestigious award ceremony based in Westminster. Surrounded by leading business professionals in the engineering sector and up against fierce competition, Calum was announced the winner of the award, sponsored by Eduqas. A spokesperson for the Enguinity Awards said that Calum was:

Recognised for his thoughtful problem-solving, workplace contributions, and maturity, Calum has shown a clear passion for engineering and outstanding potential for the future.

The Enginuity Skills Awards are designed to celebrate students, apprentices, employers, and businesses who are shaping the future of engineering and manufacturing. The T Level Student of the Year award is described as recognising:

a student whose success in both education and work placement demonstrates their commitment to learning and developing skills, making them an ideal role model for encouraging others into engineering and manufacturing careers.

The good news doesn't stop there. Calum, along with fellow engineering students Peter Ashton and Archie Nelson, have secured degree apprenticeships at BAE Systems upon the completion of their T-Level placement. This reflects the high level of learning and opportunity we pride ourselves on here at Southport College.

Everyone at Southport College is absolutely delighted and so proud of Calum for his well deserved achievement. We're thrilled his dedication and work ethic has been recognised by the judges. We wish him the absolute best as he kickstarts in career in the engineering industry and we wish him every success in the future.
