Mim Skinner's talk about her
new book Jailbirds

Our 3rd year BA Criminology student, Joanne Larkin, visited the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool recently to listen to Mim Skinner’s talk about her new book Jailbirds: Lessons from a Women’s Prison. "She talked about positive as well as sad stories and about the reality of prison life for women."

"I was inspired by Mim, who works alongside women who find themselves in a continuous cycle of drug addiction, homelessness, and domestic violence. These women need help and support, but were regularly given prison sentences for petty, non-violent crimes, without any support to help break their cycle."

Her book attempts to change people’s perceptions of female prisons and prisoners, which will help lead to political change in society.

This talk was also a good opportunity for networking with representatives of local charities who help women who have been incarcerated.
