Access To Higher Education

Careers Advice & Guidance
As an adult learner you’ll have access to the careers and university resources and you can also access course and careers advice and guidance through our Student Information Centre. You tutor will also discuss careers options and applications with you.

Cheryl Leddy, Teaching Assistants As a single mother I needed work that would fit around my children and the school holidays and my job had become unfulfilling. It was now or never. Even though I’d been out of education for over 15 years the tutors encouraged and supported me. I was made very welcome and I’ve met some fantastic, likeminded people. The course content was just right; you need to make time to complete tasks but even with work, college, placement and a family it is doable. There are plenty of tutorial weeks, with tutors on hand to help you if you get behind, and if you need to ring or email a tutor, if they can’t answer straightaway they do, as soon as possible. I’ve secured a full-time, permanent job at a lovely school, doing a job, I had only previously dreamed of. It is very rewarding. I am learning my new role and hope, in the not too distant future to return to Southport College to do my Teaching Assistants Level 3, which gives greater scope for jobs or promotion at work.
