Official Opening of Southport College University Centre

On Tuesday 15 January 2019, we were delighted to formally open our brand new Southport College University Centre building, providing our Higher Education Students with high quality dedicated facilities, including a social learning space and modern, bright, spacious classrooms.

Fletcher, CEO of Fletchers Solicitors who are a key employer in the town and strong supporters of the College. Ed spoke about how positive it was for Southport to have a higher education provision on its doorstep and how his company had benefitted from employing former students from a variety of degree courses studied there.

Guests at the ceremony then heard from our Principal John Clarke and former student Julie Kenyon. Julie spoke passionately about how in her 40’s she had decided to totally change her career and return to higher education, and how the support and encouragement she had received at Southport College University Centre had empowered her to graduate with a BA (hons) in Criminology and Social Sciences, gain a 2:1 and now follow a rewarding and successful career in Youth Justice.

The event ended with a short performance from some of our University Centre’s HND Performing Arts students, including a very pertinent excerpt from Willy Russell’s “Educating Rita”.
