Southport College students take part in beach clean up with Damien Moore MP

Today was the day that we’ve been waiting for! Over 60 of our staff and students travelled to Ainsdale beach today to participate in a plastic clean up along with several volunteers from the Southport area. The aim? To raise awareness of plastic consumption. This fantastic event was organised by the...

in our Science department who are passionate about the issue and its effect on the environment. From there the idea of the beach clean-up was born. Staff and students sported the college colours and were joined by volunteers and local MP Damien Moore on the beach at 12pm, ready to pick up any litter they could find.

The group split in to two, determined to find as much plastic that they could find. Our Photography students also came along to take some snaps and our Art students are set to create a sculpture out of the plastic collected. It is so encouraging to see the college working with the wider community and to see our staff and students working together towards an end goal. If you are interested in joining the Science department and taking part in their fantastic events check out our full range of courses here on our website.

Well done to all who took part!
