Southport College Art Students Collaborate with Wickes on Community Mural

Southport College is delighted to be working alongside Wickes Southport for the installation of a new community art mural in their new Kew Retail Park Superstore, designed and created by our art and graphics students.

Wickes Regional Manager Kevin and Store Manager Connor alongside Southport College art and graphics teacher Grant, Bec, and Darryl

On Tuesday 20th January, Store Manager Connor and Regional Manager Kevin presented a design brief to students from our L3 Graphic Design, L3 Art and Design, and L4 Art Foundation courses. The project is to design a community mural which will be fitted on a 8ft by 16ft display at the front of the store.

The project brings together themes of Southport, Wickes’ mission and values, and the independent creativity of our students, allowing them to create a design using a medium of their choice.

The final design will be chosen by Kev and a judging panel, with the creation being completed collaboratively by students across Southport College's art faculty.

Opening in October 2025, the new Wickes superstore is a 20,000 square foot premises based in Kew Retail Park and has created 20 new jobs in the town. Through their Community Programme and commitment to local charity and networking, they are keen to forge connections with organisations and businesses in Southport and the surrounding areas.

This project marks the beginning of a long-term partnership between Southport College and Wickes Southport. We look forward to developing a strong working relationship and are extremely grateful for this exciting opportunity for our students and the wider College community.
