Baroness Jacqui Smith Minister of Skills visits Southport College

Southport College were delighted to welcome government Minister of Skills, Baroness Jacqui Smith to our campus.

Baroness Jacqui with Southport College Principal Michelle Brabner

Accompanied by our local MP Patrick Hurley, the Minister spent the morning touring a number of our key teaching areas and meeting both students and staff. Her visit began at Clouds Restaurant, where she heard about the hands-on experience our catering students gain while working in a professional environment. From there, she headed over to our newly renovated Pennington building, the dedicated home of our construction and trades courses, to see the latest facilities and speak with learners about their training.

Baroness Jacqui also took time to visit our award winning floristry department, observing our adult learners work and discussing our success at local flower shows.

Overall, the visit provided a fantastic opportunity to showcase the breadth of skills development happening across Southport College and the positive impact it is having on our community. We want to thank the Baroness for spending time with us and for her wider support of the College and the general FE sector.
